Collaborative And Structural Reform funded projectInnovative approaches to the provision of Languages other than English in Australian Higher EducationProject trialsFollowing a very successful Expression of Interest Call for collaborative projects (15 proposals submitted), a DASSH/CASR Committee chaired by Prof Ken Strongman, Canterbury University NZ, selected six (6) national projects for funding: Chinese: UNE/JCUModel 1: "Blended model" UNE/JCU partnership in Chinese Language StudiesThe project aims to: i) introduce and evaluate Mandarin (Chinese) at JCU and ii) to provide opportunities for heritage language study to the Chinese community in Cairns. German: UWA/ANUModel 3A: Enriching the Honours experience in European languages. UWA and ANU collaborationThe project aims to: i) develop and implement shared curricula for German Honours students among the collaborative partners; ii) plan and hold an intensive residential school for German Honours Students; iii) develop a sound pedagogic and financially responsible model of cooperation for shared Honours teaching across Australia; iv) cooperate with a private provider - Goethe Institute - in the delivery of programs at the residential school PET
Indonesian: USC/UNE/CDU/UTasModel 3B: Application for funding of a blended online in-country model USC, UNE, CDU and UTas collaborationThe key aims for the project are to evaluate and develop online support for, the integrated in-country Indonesian language program developed by the consortium of four universities (UNE, USC, CDU and UTas) and to develop systems for resourcing, mentoring and training in-country tutors of the integrated in-country program. Modern Greek: Flinders/CDUModel 1: Collaborative Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching (Modern Greek) - Flinders and CDU collaborationThe project aims to: i) implement a Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching for the promotion of Modern Greek language and professional development in an established Greek-speaking community (Darwin); ii) to develop a version of the course (already delivered at Flinders) for qualified tteachers, (who may have an informal knowledge of the LOTE but who have not studied it formally); iii) develop a technical and pedagogical model of videoconferencing tutorials to multiple individual sites. Arabic and Italian: UniSA/DeakinModel 1: Co-operative blended model Offering Arabic and Italian at Uni SA and Deakin respectively - UniSA and Deakin collaborationThe project will exchange courses and on-line materials in Arabic (from Deakin to UniSA) and Italian (from UniSA to Deakin). The project will trial Model 1 (Cooperative Blended Model) as part of the CASR grant looking at Innovative collaborations in the provision of Languages other than English in Australian higher education. Latin: UNE/Newcastle/USQModel 1: Classics around Australia - UNE, Newcastle and USQ collaborationThis project will trial and evaluate Model 1 (Cooperative Blended Model) in the provision of Greek and the introduction of a new Koine Greek strand for New Testament studies at the university of Newcastle and the initial introduction of Greek or Latin, new languages at the University of Southern Queensland.
