Freemantle is just 20 minutes from Perth’s city centre and situated on Western Australia’s “sunset coast”. Rich in history, tradition and culture, colourful “Freo” is close to all the action.

Fremantle is the ideal location to start your holiday. Fremantle boasts some of the finest shopping, dining, recreational and leisure facilities in Western Australia. Located in a beautiful port city, where the Swan River meets the Indian Ocean, Fremantle enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Perfect for outdoor pursuits. For the more energetic - why not hire a bicycle and ride around this famous port city!

Visiting Perth and Fremantle

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year to visit Western Australia.  Blue skies, warm days and comfortably cool evenings, Perth, Fremantle and the southwest will offer all visitors a wonderful working and vacation experience. 

While attending the DASSH conference, guests may like to consider also spending time at:

• Perth’s amazing beaches and parks.  The landmark Cottesloe beach is just a 10 minute drive or short train journey from Fremantle, while King’s Park is poised on the edge of the city and offers extraordinary views across the Swan River and beautiful tree-top walks.

• Fremantle’s vibrant coffee and culture precinct.  Imagine soaking up a coffee surrounded by the buzz of South Terrace, slipping over to Fishing Boat harbour for freshly cooked (and caught) fish and chips, browsing through the boutique fashion and book shops on High Street, or taking a gourmet meal in any of the city’s amazing restaurants.

• The Margaret River wine region.  Just a 2.5 hour drive south of Fremantle and Perth, the towns of Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup are the gateway to the Margaret River wine region.  Poised on the coast of Geographe Bay, they are ideally suited for getaways of a weekend or longer.  Some of Australia’s greatest wineries are positioned within only a short drive and offer wonderful wine as well as fabulous dining experiences.   Consider having a meal surrounded by the wonderful gardens of Amberley, on the breathtaking balcony of Wise or under the gum trees at Clairault.

• Wildflower country.  Western Australia’s landscape comes alive with wildflowers from June to November.  Indeed, more than 60% of Australia’s unique fauna are found in the state.  Fabulous displays will be on show in Kings Park, for those everlastings lovers.  Consider, also, following the wildflower trail north to Cervantes and the Pinnacles, and then looping back to Perth through such towns as Mullewa, Dalwallinu and the historic Benedictine town of New Norcia.
